‘Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals’ – Jim Rohn
Let me ask you a question, “How many articles have you read about being a better blogger?”
While same techniques work for those bloggers, they do not produce even 10% result for 90% readers! Ever thought why?
The answer lies in one word: Basics. Because those 90% who do not get results do not basics right!
To be successful blogger, you here are 5 Basic Blogging Lessons You Must Remember:
- Making Money From Blogging is Not Easy: I can hear you screaming, “But Hey, Darren, Daniel, John Chow and many others make lot of money! And they make it easily!” Yes, they make money easily but they have worked on and mastered basics! They did not started out with a high traffic blog. They started out like you, as a small blogger. But they invested time and now, they are there, Making Money without Much Effort!
- Content is Not the Only King: Write a top class article and put it on your blog without any picture and formatting. Only a few will read it. Why? Because now, along with content, presentation is also important. Most visitors will not read your article if it is accompanied by poor design! So, take time to find relevant and good pictures, format the text well, use headings, lists and anything.
- Traffic is the Key: Unless and untill you have good traffic, nothing will work. You will not get money, comments, subscribers, customers from a blog having very little traffic. Learn promotional techniques and work on increasing traffic!
- You Need Goals: Ever walked on road without knowing destination? Blogging is just like that! You need to know what you want to achieve and most importantly, how you want to achieve! Without knowing destination, you will reach nowhere! So, set your goals!
- Loners Are Not Famous: To be successful, you need connections. You have to connect with readers, other bloggers and advertisers. You have to interact with readers to get comments. You have to contact other bloggers for help and advice. You have to talk to advertisers to earn! Nothing will happen without interaction. So, learn how to communicate well and you will go a long way.
These were the 5 Basic Blogging Lessons You Must Remember. Have something else to say? Feel free to air your basic lessons in comments.

Nice Tips. I can add one more thing. ” Hard Work is the Shortcut to success “.
Thanks for adding to the post. Hard work is indeed the shortcut to success!
In the present world, its Smart Work that pays off. You need a bit of this and bit of that to get to the front. Someone who has it all, reaches the attic. Of course, Hard work is the key. 🙂
Good tips. You well said “content is not the only king”.Traffic plays major role.
A balance between good content and promotion is best way to go. With only content, nothing will happen and same is the case with promotion. First write, then promote, then interact(with commentators and readers) and repeat!
I disagree with this. Content is always the king. If you have submitted url’s to popular search engines , they will definitely make you popular if there is any relevance.
Google itself will make you popular . SEO tips will help you to bring traffic to site .
@ Hari Well, I never said that “Content is not King”. What I said was “Content is not the only king” Submitting to Google or any search engine won’t make any difference until you some good inbound links. For that, you will have to promote content well!
I think Ishan’s style was not taken well here. You are absolutely right. 🙂
Thanks Mr. I,
All are good for a good blogger, but one thing is always remember – variation in each post* necessary, because every regular visitor of you blog will be bore if he or she find a type of post every time on his/her visit.
So, always remember.
* this is my personal thinking. 🙂
Well, I disagree a bit with you here. Variation in each post is not necessary. If users do not find consistency, they will go away. However, rotating topics weekly is a better option. For example, you can write 2-3 posts about one topic a week and then about another next week. This will make sure you have lot of targeted content(good for SEO) while not making readers bored!
No problem, actually i am trying to say that, not to post different type of articles every day. post a spicy article in between your regular trendy posting. I think you understanding my point.
Spicy posts? They are indeed a good idea in between!
Lol, spicy posts. Something to do with Bollywood spice..? 😉
I would say, some list posts in between can act as crowd pullers from the social media 🙂
A good blogger should concentrate on earning money or blogging ? To which he should give importance ?
Cheers ! 😉
@ Pradeep Thanks for commenting. Good blogger should focus in blogging. Focusing more on earning money is one of the biggest mistakes in my book!
I don’t like the concept “Blogging For Money” ! 😉
By this only Spamming increased !
@Pradeep : Spamming :). You mean copy and paste from here and there ?
The web has grown, I don’t even know how many domains are totally registered. So to find a good web page may be a tedious job .
Many of them may have started blogging, hearing about online money. Money may be the key factor that makes them write new posts. Its also a reward if you write good posts 🙂 .
I agree with you for this point “It(money) is also a reward if you write good posts” ! 😉
I didn’t mean copy and paste.. but spammers do their job for earning money only na ? 🙂 I guess so ..
I have to think about this…..but I want to comment now before I forget. Blogging is NOT all about making money or at least I don’t think it was created to do that. There are zillions of blogs about “how to blog” or “how to make money” blogging. *yawn* As a writer, my goal is to just express myself with my blog. It could be the catalyst for other projects that stem from it…or not.
However, I am just a weeee bit tired of the “content is king” line. It’s not rocket science to figure out that some people ONLY write a piece to get traffic. They use their “key words” carefully. They position their first paragraph to contain those key words to the point of nausea.
Did Shakespeare write so his content would be king? Doubt it. He wrote with passion. Did Hemingway want to reach the top rank in google? No. Now, don’t pull me apart and say ‘that was prior to the internet’…because my point is that people now want to be writers so they can get to the top of a list and earn revenue. What happened to the love of writing? The art of writing something that people connect with?
How many SEO articles can we stomach? 🙂
These are GREAT tips on blogging and I think they are important to learn…but in a world that’s hell bent on making money instead of loving what we do, let’s get back to basics. Or at least just pretend. 🙂
I agree. Blogging, in the first place was a medium to express yourself. But now, everything seems to be focused around money! No matter which blog you choose, making money will always be a big factor there. You can take ProBlogger as example, the title of home page raeds: “Blog Tips to Help You Make Money Blogging”. Almost all bloggers are now dreaming to make money, be it some way or other. Passion is still there. Look at Leo Babuta, he could have placed many ad slots to get more from Zen Habits but he did not. Although, he is also earning money but the point is that he is not doing it on the cost of passion.
You aired another good basic(that had to be on top of this list): Passion is the Fuel -Many bloggers start make money blogs just because they think they can earn this way. But they lack passion and ultimately, leave the blog in company of dead blogs(more than 80% blogs have not posted in last year according to Technorati!)
Regarding SEO articles, I think we will have to digest them until Google exists and pays attention to keywords or until(with due respect 😉 ) those monkeys who call themselves “SEO Gurus” and give advices like: “Keep Keyword density more than 15%”, “Include Keywords here and there”, “Do this to keywords and that too” etc.
And just found this from Benjamin Franklin: “Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.” SO, I guess bloggers will dream of making money until blogs exist!
I agree with Daily Blonde ! 😀
IMHO, The passion is a factor that keeps a blogger do what he does, even when he feels that no one reads his blog. And good writers, who do not care where they stand on Google, often write awesome articles – Articles that are never googled, but shared in the social media.
Passion has one more benefit. Those writers will have a personal touch in what they do. You will be a fan of the author by just reading one post. (The way I read this post and… ).
on the practical side I think, bloggers must concentrate on the SEO stuffs until their blog reaches the Auto-Pilot mode. Once they have a good stand, they should care about content rather than what Google thinks about them.
But as long as there is competition, people would always do whatever evil they can to be on top. 😉
Excelent tips! Thanks.
Thanks poch. Glad that it helped you. Thanks to Ishan too 🙂
what about the consistency
Oh yea. I think Ishan left it out. Consistency is important. An active blog can die out if you don’t post for a year.. 🙂
Thanks for the heads up.. 🙂
Hi there Mr.I,
Good to see your post here. I’m follow blogging with success regularly. I think you have highlighted the key points very well.
I met Mr.I via DBT and ever since I met him, he with his blog has been a great resource for me too 🙂
You forget the most essential of all, passion (and/or) dedication. Without it, one’s blog might be inevitably sold or the blogger would just quit sooner of later.
yep, passion is lot important too. Too less passion, and you will drop after a month. I know a friend who is too passionate that he doesnt like the idea of monetizing what he does. 🙂
Nice blogging tips, we all are heading towards earning money by blogging. We have started our “VoIP for Bangladesh” blog in June to help people getting one-stop VoIP information for making cheapest call to Bangladesh. In September we could come up with a nice and organized template for our blogger blog, still there is lots of job to be done for SEO. We need traffic, good readers who else may need to know about cheapest or free calling option using Internet, and for that no doubt we believe we need to have passion and dedication.
Good luck with the project Siraj, hope you will make it in time.
