For most of us, search engine traffic is a synonym for Google Traffic. The faster you are indexed, the better, especially when you blog about hot trending topics.
But Google has to crawl a zillion pages every day. And submitting your link to Google manually wont do any good, you know that, right?
So how do we get indexed fast? Here is the secret.
Be Regular
Google loves regularity. This doesn’t mean you have to post every day. What every you do, do it in equal intervals.
Say if you post 15 posts a week, do it once in 48 hours. Too slow a pace wouldn’t do any good either. Keep your blog updated at least once in 3 days.
If you try it, initially you wont see any results. Keep doing it for a month or two, the results will come.
How fast can you get indexed?
When I was blogging once every two days, I used to get indexed in about an hour. Now that I am blogging daily, I get indexed in about 5 minutes or lesser. That’s what has been happening for the last 2 weeks.
Even though I had been blogging daily for 2 months now, it took about 40 days for the results to come.
How do you know when you get indexed?
Use Google Alerts. Set-up a Google alert for your own blog and when Google indexes you, you get notified with an email. Remember to choose, ‘as-it-happens‘, when you make the alert.
Remember, The key is to be regular.
P.S: There was a Google Page Rank Update Today, Did you check your page rank?
Update: I had started a timer after posting this one, it took 13.55 minutes to get indexed, thats a bit slower than I expected, still not bad. Murphy’s Laws in action 😉
As you said being regular is the key.. Of late, however, there’s another easy way as well. I noticed that if your post is getting immediately RTed by a few people, you are getting indexed reasonably fast. I don’t know how they do it but I ‘felt’ it’s working. Regardless of my irregular posting habits now my posts are getting indexed really fast.
Ajith,
Google is tracking and indexing twitter tweets almost instantly. Try creating a google alert in with your twitter handle and you can see it happening in real time (almost). So when people RT, google indexes the tweet and crawls the page. That could be an explanation 🙂
That’s what I thought too.. Need to do further research on this – I am forced to believe that twitter # tags while retweeting might play a big role as well to increase search relevance
That sounds purely logical, Nice thinking. We could only find out with some testing. As with all cases with SEO, it would be hard to test.
Did you 301’d your previous www version to the non www version or simply changed the structure using htaccess?
If you 301’d it, your pr should have stayed at 3, now that its 2, there’s something that Google didn’t like.
I changed the structure via WP dashboard, and updated Google Webmasters Tools. Its a 301 Redirect automatically. Test it with http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/
The change in PR could be of other reasons. I was PR4 once, then it dropped to 3, then to 0, now back to 2. Its a roller coaster 😉
I am yet to see any effect of page rank on anything. Its just a ranking which doesn’t make much sense any more.
I like your interest 😉
Lol, what interest? We HAVE TO deal with these things right?
I was saying that If you made a 301, then your previous PR of 3 should be preserved (forget pr 4 for now). Since it is 2 now, there is a Google P. In other words, even if you didn’t change the structure, the PR decrease would’ve been there.
But since there is no change in traffic what so ever, you don’t really need to care about it, for now.
Dude, actually am not worried about any kind of penalty or traffic. I would rather take it as an opportunity to learn more of the system 😉
wow! Really interesting
Good to see you buds 🙂
Consistency is one important point and along with it pinging service is very important..
Sometime I like auto-blogs, which give instant backlinks.. 😛
Those auto-blogs used to improve the technorati rankings considerably. Thinks technorati found a way to filter those out.
Useful information!!! The Google Alerts trick is awesome 🙂 and the design of this blog is really nice especially its clean and minimalistic approach.
Thanks Namit, really appreciated 🙂
Really Helpful for bloggers
One of the fastest ways to get indexed fast by google is to get a dofollow backlink from a PR7 site. If you do so, you site can be indexed within 24 hours. If you get a dofollow link from a PR6 site, your site will be indexed in about 1 week.
Yes, indexing of new content does depend on how regular a blogger has been on his blog. Post daily and you’ll find new content gets indexed almost instantaneously.
share your posts on facebook, twitter, technorati….to get indexed fast
yeah.. it works 🙂
