GBTA Convention: Serving the Corporate Travel Industry for 50 Years

2018 marks the 50th year for the GBTA Convention. During this time period, the GBTA Convention has been catering to the unique and vital needs of business travel professionals.

The GBTA Convention is held each year in the summertime. In 2018, the confab and tradeshow will be held in San Diego from August 11 through 15.

The Global Business Travel Association, GBTA, is ranked as the world’s premier business travel and meetings organization. GBTA is headquartered in the U.S. capital with associated area operations on six continents.

GBTA has a membership base of more than 9,000. The membership of GBTA is responsible for managing more than $345 billion of global business travel and meetings expenditures on a yearly basis.

About the GBTA Convention

The GBTA Convention is build each year around the understanding that business travel industry has been evolving at what is considered an unprecedented pace. Evolution is seen in technology, security risks, and in other areas. The GBTA Convention is organized to provide a centralized location for the presentation of idea, processes, products, services, and resources that are intended to address the ever-changing business travel industry.

The GBTA Convention is the world’s largest business travel event. The convention and tradeshow now features over 7,000 attendees annually. Attendees will come from over 50 different nations.

The GBTA Convention in 2018 will feature over 400 exhibiting companies. The agenda for the convention will include more than 100 professional development and education sessions.

The 2018 GBTA Convention will be held in the San Diego Convention Center. Due to the large number of exhibiters on the Expo Floor, GBTA Convention staff members will continually man an informational desk to assist attendees in finding specific exhibitors and to obtain more generalized information about convention programming.

Kick Start Professional Development Program

The GBTA Convention includes what is known as the Kick Start Professional Development Program for individuals in the business travel industry. The Kick Start Professional Development Program is a comprehensive endeavor that runs the length of the convention. Kick Start includes seminars, classes, and different types of presentations. The moniker of the Kick Start program in 2018 is Fundamentals of Business Travel Management™.

The GBTA describes the mission of Kick Start as a guide to the key elements of managed travel. The curriculum includes a broad range of essentials, including safety, policy, trends, performance. and more.

Registration costs for participation in the convention-long Fundamentals of Business Travel Management™ program is in addition to fees for the overall confab. The fee for Fundamentals of Business Travel Management™ is $450 for a GBTA member and $500 for a nonmember.

Kick Start ends with a social event on Sunday evening. The event, GBTA Awareness Event, also raises money for a local charity in the hosting community. The cost for the event is $50 and can be paid on site.

GBTA 12th Annual Golf Classic

Over the course of the past 12 years, the GBTA Golf Classic has been a popular aspect of the convention. In 2018, the GBTA Golf Classic will be held at the Torrey Pines Golf Club.

Advance registration is required. Single registration is $295. There are opportunities for hole sponsorship, by exhibiting companies and others. In addition, the foursome entre fee is $2,500 and includes a complimentary hole sponsorship.

GBTA and Phocuswright Innovation Series

The GBTA and Phocuswright Innovation Series is returning to the GBTA Convention in 2018. The GBTA and Phocuswright Innovation Series begins with an online competition among nine industry innovators. They compete for the title of Best Innovator in Business Travel, a designation that is bestowed during the convention.

Ultimately, the competitors are winnowed down to three innovators. These participants make their presentations at the Innovation Series Finale at GBTA Convention 2018. Following the finale, the winner of the competition is selected.

Registration Fees

The registration fee for a GBTA member is $1,945 and $2,045 for a nonmember. The fee for an exhibitor is $1,945, with exhibition space sold separately. The fee for a non-exhibiting supplier is $4,100. Complimentary passes are available to the media. $150 is taken off any registration if made before July 10, 2018. Lodging information and availability is provided after registration. There are different lodging options in various price ranges.
