How often do you brood over your Blunders?

In January, 2009, I wrote a post which unintentionally turned out into a life changing post for me.

When StudioPress Themes (back then, it was called Revolution Themes), who had made their themes available for free download, decided to remove the free download links from their site, I uploaded all the themes I had in my collection and made it available for free download. I had the entire set with me and the post went popular in no time.

If I would judge myself as of today, that was something really crappy to do, but on that day, it felt perfectly OK. No, am not trying to repent over my mistake. Why should I?

  • Stay FoolishIt brought me close to 400 visit’s a day for the next two months. It stood as a pillar post.
  • It helped a lot in the SEO contest at Dollar Shower where I was the first runner-up.
  • That one single post gave me the kind of revenue that made me believe for the first time, that I can actually make money online.
  • It brought me in contact with people whom I still do work with.

The point is – The blunder I committed actually did Wonders.

Similar stuffs happen to me quite often. I guess am not alone.

Turn to what Steve Jobs said in his talk to the graduates at Stanford. Life is a Game of Dots, you never see the big picture until all dots are connected.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And Never brood over your blunders.

So is the Hostgator hosting that you were talking about in the email to me?
I wondered when did you choose Hostgator so suddenly. Congrats for for being the runner-up, that was great.
I actually wanted to talk to you about the revolution themes that you host on your site. Some time back I was checking the keywords that were driving traffic to the blogs that I know and to my surprise, it was ‘Revolution themes’ or related to revolution that stood as the top 10 keywords for Millionclues.
And it must be a magic post to you, giving a year of host gator account.
Hope you share the secrets that you get to learn from ‘Online profits’ :D

Thanks for reminding me about the SEO Challenge again :) I am hopeful of conducting it this year with a different approach whereby it’s not easy for people to leverage on with existing posts or Google Trends and news driven posts :)

Btw, how’s the HostGator doing? I am planning to switch to them soon…

Am waiting for the next SEO contest. Hope the oldies can be a part of the new one too. Btw, if you need any help brainstorming, feel free to pull me in. lol
The contest taught me more stuffs that I would have ever learnt otherwise. Thanks a lot for the first contest :)

This is one of my weaknesses.
I find it hard to forgive myself for blunders.

Some Times doing blunders does magical things that make us happy. Some times they not. What i do is that i ll take the good part and leave the bad away. Thats behind one of my success in my life.

Arun, congrats for the HG and SEO thing ! :D

And I have one question for you..

When is a blog eligible for conducting a contest ?

    Lets be professional !

    • Posted August 17, 2009 at 17:31 | Permalink

I dont think there is any eligibility criterion. Once you have a few dedicated readers and a lots of free time, not to forget the sponsors, you can conduct. :)
if you are planning to conduct, do refer to this post.
