Computers are important and like any other machine, many problems and errors crop up while working on computers. These complications can be related to hardware, software, or are inherent in the execution of the various routine tasks by the computer. One of the most commonly encountered errors during the software execution of the computer is the various dll files (dynamic link library) errors.

These errors are for the most part encountered by those computer users, who operate upon Windows-based operating systems, and need to do with the various dynamic link library files residing in the registry of the operating system in the computer. Although these various dll errors can prove to cause a lot of impatience as well as frustration, fixing these errors is not a task which would prove too much a challenge, if you really get a hang of what is required to be done.

The very first step in the course of solving a problem is to find out the root cause and the various reasons behind the problem. The registry structure of a computer is such that it is composed of a number of .dll files. These dynamic link library files are imperative for the smooth execution of the various applications as well as programs, residing within the memory of the computer. There are times when some undesired action deletes or accidentally renames or relocates these dll files. As a result of this undesired action, the applications or programs requiring these dll files for execution can no longer execute, and rather issue a not found warning or a dll error.

Apart from this, there are a host of other reasons as well, which result in the occurrence of dll errors. Even computer viruses have often been seen to affect registries and be an able cause of these dll errors.

Often, many of the individual programs are linked to these missing dll files. In situations like these, it is easy to pin point the particular program which is causing the dll error to appear, by simply executing the program. The thing to do next is to go over to the internet and search for a suitable add on or a patch for reinstating the program in its original state. If this does not cure the problem, the only option you are left with is to reinstall the software. This is bound to work as reinstalling the software or the program would reinstate the desired dll file, which has gone missing.

In case the source or the real cause behind these dll errors is not known, the restore facility provided in the computer is more than a savior. In such a situation, running the restore facility would only work if you know the exact date when the dll error first popped up. If this doesn’t even fix the problem, what can be suitably done is to run a full system virus scan, which would restore the system into order.

The BIOS password is a security feature in the BIOS of the computer. Once enabled, the user cannot access the system without entering the BIOS password. This password secures the basic input-output of the system. The system boots only after receiving the password, so there is no way to enter without knowing it.

Once you forget the BIOS password, you are completely blocked out of your system. No password reminders or alternate questions. Thankfully, there is a very simple way to reset the BIOS password.

Hacking the BIOS

To reset the password, the BIOS has to be put into the configure mode. This is done by replacing a jumper on the board. (A jumper is nothing but a piece of metal that shorts two contacts.) For the Intel 845 gvsr motherboard, the jumper is near the motherboard battery. (See image). Refer to your motherboard manual to find the jumper.

Jumper Leads. Inset: Jumper Placed on the Leads

Just replace the jumper into the configure mode, and switch ON the system. You will see something similar to the following screen.

BIOS in Maintanence Mode

Select ‘Clear ALL Passwords’ and both Supervisor password and System Password will be reset. You can install a new password in the Security tab. Press F10 to save and exit. Turn OFF the system, replace the jumper to the initial position and turn ON the system.

All demonstrations are based on the Intel 845 gvsr motherboard. Most motherboards will have a similar jumper. Refer to the motherboard manual.

Do you want your boss to see how much you have in your Paypal Account? How would you like if the net café boy starts sending emails from your account? Do you think that your non-geeky sister won’t find your locked drive password? Its all possible if there is a keyboard logging software installed.

Keyboard Logging Softwares can record every keystroke you make. Google for Free Keyboard Loggers and you will find many freebies that can track every key-stroke anonymously. Most public computers and office computers use such software to track the activities of its users. But you are no longer afraid of them. See how you can protect your passwords from such Keyboard Loggers.

Cheating the Key-Stroke Logger

Use the On-Screen Keyboard: The Accessories in windows have an on-screen keyboard. Type ‘osk’ in the RUN command box for the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK). Now, type in your password using the mouse and the OSK.

But recently I tested this on a Key-Board Logger and I was amazed by what the software could do. It had recorded the password typed in using the OSK. But we are not giving up yet!

Fool the Logger by shifting the focus: Type in the password in bits, by turning on and off the focus of the password box.

For e.g. : If the password is ‘amnesia’ (lol, that’s not my password ) type in ‘am’ in the password box. Now click on a blank area in the window and so that the password box is not in focus anymore. Now type some random text (say ‘monia’). This will not appear on the password box since it is out of focus. Now click on the password box and type some more of the password, say ‘ne’. Again click on a blank area and type some random words. Repeat this till you complete your password.

The Keyboard Logger would have recorded am-monia-ne…(without the – ) since most loggers can’t differentiate the fields. That way we cheat the Logger with a wrong password.

I would recommend the second method, but if your password is that important, use a combination of both the methods.

If you had been accessing your accounts from public computers, how were you keeping them secured before reading this?
